Matching seams perfectly across pieces on foundation paper piecing patterns can give your finished quilt extra WOW factor. I’d love to hear your experience and any tips or tricks you have found, and I’ll share what I have found that works for me to achieve matching seams.
I also have a video on YouTube showing this process step by step. FPP Matching Perfect Seams Across Blocks
I start by placing a pin directly on the seam that creates the line. The pin is exactly on the quarter inch seam line and between the 2 colors of the perpinduclar seam. Check both sides of the piece to ensure that the pin is coming out the other side exactly on the seam separating the colors. Then pin the corresponding piece through the perpindular line and exactly on the quarter inch seam line of that piece.

Keep the pin between the pieces perpindular holding both pieces together. You will want to keep that pin exactly in this position while adding pins to the other seams to match on this section.
Place holding pins on between perpindicular pins to hold the pieces together. Leaving the perpindicular pins in place ensures that your cross seams will stay lined up.
Sew slowly. Leave the pins in right up to the moment that section is about to go under the needle.
For complex areas with many matching seams I like to do a basting seam first and check if all lines are matching.
The basting seam allows for easy unpicking if any cross seams need adjusted. Once the cross seams are to your liking, resew at 1.6 stitch length.
Perfect seams!
